Wednesday Written Update 11 (11 weeks post 1.0)

 Welcome, welcome

As I've told the people over at the discord, I'm currently having personal issues that keep me from working on the game properly. That forced break however made me realise a few things that you might not like, dear reader. To make things short and clear, I am considering halting the development of the game.

Why?

Because the current design of the game is extremely expansive, perhaps too expansive for a solo dev. I was initially planning on finishing this in the span of about two years but the more I work on it, the more I realise that this wouldn't be realistic considering everything I want to tell through this game.
Also, the engine I'm currently working on is a very old version of rpgm. It is limited, in many many ways. Even a simple thing can be a headache to work on and the final product is not as enjoyable as it could be.

Wait wait, but I like these characters!

That makes me very happy to hear, sincerely. And I like them too! Their stories are already written, and they have a lot to show and tell, even the ones that haven't been introduced yet.
I do not plan on forgetting about them, and if I can help it, they'll come back. But they'll come back in a different game, with a different design, on a different engine. Something way more deliberate and well thought out.

What then?

Once I'm free of my current predicaments I will probably call the project abandoned, and start working on something different (I have already started, actually). I will make all of the current CGs (in full resolution) available through a download link on the blog/the discord as thanks for supporting me and as a sorry for dropping the project.
The discord server will remain active, I will simply shift focus from the old project to the new one and give the blog a makeover.

Whatever you liked about the previous project will remain in the new one! Same kinds of models, same writing, same world! Only different perspective, different story, different characters and different design. Something way tighter, way more deliberate and of higher quality.

Conclusion

Sorry to everyone who looked forward to more of this story. I'd rather quit this project while it's still in its infancy and come back to it later when I'm more confident about its quality and direction.

Please do not miss Johann and his girls. They'll be back one day, stronger than ever!

Wednesday Written Update 10 (10 weeks post 1.0)

 Welcome, welcome

First of all, Happy New Year to everyone reading. I hope 2022 will be a fulfilling and exciting year for all of you.
This week was mostly spent on finishing the new battle content and implementing as many scenes as possible.
We still got a few that are not finished yet but I'm confident I'll be done by next week.
And after that it'll be finishing up on a big side quest and play testing for bugs.
Speaking of bugs, by the way, there is a bug report channel on the discord, if you feel like helping with development just by playing don't hesitate to drop by and post some bug reports, the more reports I get the better the game will be eventually.

The past few weeks have been awfully lacking in visual stimulation so have this preview, as a treat.

This is part of the new upcoming tent scene for Elvira!

Wednesday Written Update 09 (9 weeks post 1.0)

 Welcome, welcome,

This week was mostly spent on adding gameplay content, as well as a lot of writing.
Even though I'm trudging along quite fine all things considered, I'm probably going to have to postpone next release until the end of January.
I had a few hurdles this week that were pretty hard to solve (I solved them mind you, but that took a while). On top of that, I really want to release a version that's clean and as polished and bug free as can be.
Hang in there folks, every day gets us closer to a new version.

Wednesday Written Update 08 (8 weeks post 1.0)

 Welcome, Welcome

This week was entirely spent working on scenes for me. Ironically not my favourite part since it involves a lot of png resizing and archiving, but what can you do, it's part of the job.
I worked on and implemented the two new tent scenes as well as the huge scene involving the Mother Superior of Untergrad and a surprise secret scene involving an Elf cutie I previewed a few weeks back.
I still need to work on a handful of new scenes, one of the two upcoming instances and one of the new quests.
After that we'll be mostly done, besides ironing out a few kinks here and there of course.
Releasing the new update in two weeks sounds likely (and it would be pretty cool too, first Wednesday of 2022 and all that) but I might need an extra week to playtest, hunt bugs and make sure everything's working fine. End of year kinda threw me (and my schedule) for a loop so bear with me there.

Wednesday Written Update 07 (7 weeks post 1.0)

This week, I worked on the two dungeons coming with the next release and the story quests related to them. (One of them has a scene attached too! Actually, both do, depending on how you look at it.)
One of them is entirely finished while the other is being worked on.
I also worked on the two new generic tent scenes for Vana and Elvira. And they are mostly done being written.

As I've brought up last week, I was considering delaying the release by a few weeks and I will have to confirm that, sadly.
Expect 1.1 to release somewhere in January rather than the very end of December.

Wednesday Written Update 06 (6 weeks post 1.0)

 Welcome, Welcome

This week was mostly spent on implementing scenes and making/balancing new dungeons.
I'm not going to go too much into details there since I don't want to spoil the surprise!

Speaking of spoiling surprises, I've decided to stop posting previews until the next release, I like sharing them but I also can't really share *all* the scenes as previews, otherwise there would be no mystery left.

I'm also considering delaying the next release by at least two weeks. The initial two months deadline was self-imposed and I clearly said it was wish rather than promise, so I don't feel too bad about it.
With the end of year celebrations coming and the fact that some stuff took longer than I expected (there's one quest in particular that's taking A LOT of writing.) I don't think I'll be able to stay within deadline.

Wednesday Written Update 05 (5 weeks post 1.0)

 Welcome, Welcome,

I said last week that I would spend most of this week working on scenes and I lied!
Not really, I did work on scenes but mostly on implementing the already shot/written one into the game.
I also worked on some big side quests which I hope you'll enjoy.

That being said, I do have one preview to show, specifically for the affection dialogue scenes.

Vanari's new upcoming dialogue scene doesn't have CG, just an insightful conversation.

I was planning on releasing two new dialogue scenes for each girl initially but I'll bring it down to one each. Two per update is way too fast and we'd run out of dialogue scenes before reaching the second half of the game. (Each recruitable character is meant to have 10 dialogue scenes total.)

I also got done implementing the Mother Superior scene that I shot and wrote a month ago.
